March 1 (Sat), 10:00, Gangwon National University (Baekryeong Art Center), 1,000+ attendees

On March 1 at 10 a.m., the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province announced that it held a ceremony to commemorate the 106th anniversary of March 1 at the Baekryeong Art Center at Gangwon National University.

The ceremony was attended by more than 1,000 people, including Governor Kim Jin-tae, Provincial Assembly Speaker Kim Si-seong, provincial chapter chairman Kim Moon-duk, heads of major organizations in the province, bereaved relatives of independence veterans, and members of the military.

The ceremony included a commemorative performance by the 2nd Corps Military Band, a reading of the Declaration of Independence by the head of the provincial chapter of the Liberation Association, awards for independence meritors, commemorative speeches, the singing of the Three Days' Day song, and the chanting of three cheers.

The government awarded the Founding Pavement to the late Shin Eulno and the Presidential Commendation to the late Kim Gim-hoe, while the governor's commendations were given to Cho Kwan-hyun, a member of the Chuncheon Union Branch of the Liberation Association, Lee Im-kyo, a member of the Yeongdong South Union Branch, and Hong Jeong-hee, secretary general of the Wonju Union Branch.

In his commemorative speech, Governor Kim Jin-tae introduced Mr. Park Jang-rok, who led the March 1 Movement in Hwacheon, with a photo, and mentioned the student anti-Japanese movement in Chuncheon and Gangneung, and said that it is our responsibility to discover and record the history of the independence movement.

“The spirit of the March 1 Movement continues to live on in the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province in the 21st century, 100 years later,” he said, showing a photo of the protest in front of the National Assembly for the successful launch of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. ”The establishment of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province is a historical choice for the people of Gangwon Province to take responsibility for and determine our own destiny.”

“It cannot be called true decentralization without economic independence,” he said, adding, ‘We will achieve true economic independence by reorganizing the industrial map with the vision of achieving KRW 100 trillion in gross regional product by 2032.’ He called for active participation and cooperation from the people of the province.
